Because Reiki is passed down directly from Reiki Master Teacher to student, there is some variance in healing techniques between Reiki practitioners depending on the style of Reiki that was taught and with whom one studied. This is where it is valuable to consider a one's lineage when choosing a Reiki Master Teacher. My lineage is called Usui Shiki Ryoho. It is a traditional Western-style Reiki, that incorporates a few modern symbols that were brought into use in 1991 by Kathleen Milner (this is before she officially created Tera Mai Reiki).
I first studied Reiki and became a Reiki Master Practitioner with Mary Preuss in 2009. In 2013, I went on to become a Reiki Master Teacher after studying with Arline Rowden. Both of these lineages are considered to be Usui Shiki Ryoho, but there are a few minor differences.
