Happy Solstice!
Today marks the shortest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. This day has been significant for me for many years. An opportunity to turn inward, to be in the quiet and reflect. I know this time of year can be a whirlwind for many as they get ready for (or are absorbed in) holiday celebrations. There often is a perceived pressure to feel happy, warm, or be cozied up with loved ones. Though this isn't the case for many people for a variety of reasons. I want to invite some space, and grace for whatever combination of feelings that might be present for you. It's okay if things feel a little crumby, you feel disappointed, or are missing people that are no longer around. The threads of our lives don't magically disappear when the holiday playlist floods the radio, and red and green pours off the shelves. This pressure can amplify existing pain. If this is where you find yourself during this time, I want to send lots of care and a hug your way. You're not alone. Soon our culture will get back to the humdrum of day-to-day. Keep on, keepin' on. No matter what's alive in you today, maybe take a few moments to reflect on your 2025. Is there something (small or large) you feel proud of yourself for? What are you grateful for? Savor that feeling. What's one loving action you can take for yourself this week? You matter. You deserve this love and care. May you soak in the gifts of the dark. Much love, Sarah ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There's still time to buy gift certificates. (*It make take up to 48 hours for the digital copy to be sent you, so please plan accordingly for gift giving.*) Prices will be going up in 2026, stock up now on gift cards at the current rate! Happy Solstice! Happy Solstice!
Today the Northern Hemisphere is as close to the sun as we will get all year. The day is long, the night is short, and summer is in full swing! I hope you are finding ways to take care of yourself this season. Action embodied in light and warmth. Light that radiates to give life. That is what I think of when I tune into the archetype of sun energy. Take a moment and breathe with me. Place a hand on your upper belly (your solar plexus). This energy center is often considered our inner sun. Can you feel your warmth? How's that inner fire? Is she dormant, blazing or somewhere in between? Ideally, our inner fire has a steady burn like a hearth fire: safely contained, gently warming the surrounding area, and able to cook a nourishing meal. I invite you to reflect on how you can tend your inner fire. Maybe your fire needs a little more oxygen to breathe and warm you up. Conversely, maybe a little flowing water is needed, letting the tears of your feelings release pressure, soothe anger, and calm the flames. Perhaps your fire is ready to share some comfort, nourishment, or guiding light for others. Notice your solar energy, and let it inform you. If you'd like some support tending that inner fire, you know where to find me. Sarah Daylight is waning and the cold ever more present here in the North. Across the globe we continue to see genocide, ignorance, oppression, injustice. It can be hard to live life with your heart and eyes wide open, to be awake to the dysfunction in the whole, in our families, in ourselves. Sometimes it can seem easier to be in denial of what is happening, if you have the privilege to be able to.
During this season, so many traditions have ways to remind us of light despite the growing darkness. We might light candles, or turn on twinkle lights. Maybe we go for walks during the midday sun, or take extra vitamin D. We might connect with prose or scripture that connects us to something deep within us, deep within life. It is an opportunity to remember the innate radiance within us. It might need a little uncovering, or a little fuel, but it is always there. Winter invites quiet reflection, hygge, and warmth. An opportunity to reconnect with the wisdom of our ancestors and traditions. A chance to reassess, and to see through the darkness. Sometimes, I don't like what I see. The harshness of the world can feel too much for my sensitive soul sometimes. I grieve for the way humans stumble around in the dark hurting each other, without taking a moment to pause and learn to move intentionally through the world. Yet, I remember that there are other souls out there like you. Others who also are uncovering their light, who shine brighter and brighter with each act of kindness, truth speaking, and self-awareness. That we are all like stars in the sky. If we keep our light shining, maybe we help others navigate through the unknown and connect with their light within. If nothing else, it helps us remember that we are not alone to see other lights out there, though the darkness might seem great. So as this year winds to a close in the coming weeks, and holiday celebrations unfold, I suppose I just wanted to express a little gratitude. Thank you for doing your part. Thank you for your light. Thank you for being a part of this constellation of community. May the light within and around you bring you gentle comfort, and warmth this time of year and always. Blessings, Sarah |
